HOPE in Lancaster, Inc. was the proud recipient of the Restock the Pantry grant from Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina and Food Lion Feeds.
From March through September 2020, HOPE responded in a big way to meet the needs of its neighbors affected directly by COVID19. HOPE recognized quickly that someone needed to fill the void and be present in communities within Lancaster County where people found it difficult to reach HOPE for services, specifically food needs. HOPE more than tripled the community members it served and increased it’s response to more than 5 locations weekly in the Lancaster County and Fort Lawn.
Due to our rapid response and significant increase in the number of people we needed to support, our food supplies dwindled quickly. Second Harvest and Food Lion Feeds addressed HOPE’s supply shortage by awarding us over 1500# of food along with $800 to purchase perishable items such as cheese and eggs.
“Being a partner with organizations such as Food Lion Feeds and Second Harvest Food Bank has been an integral part of how we are continuing to respond to the ripple effects of COVID19 in our community. Every pound of food we receive makes a real difference in someone’s life. Food insecurity has become a larger issue, and this kind of support means the world to our community and to HOPE” Tim Hale, Food Pantry Manager
