On Saturday, May 11th, HOPE is partnering with The United Way and The National Association of Letter Carriers to do an all-county food drive benefiting HOPE’s Healthy Choice Pantry and our Senior Health and Wellness Pantry. We are so thankful to be the recipient of this community-wide effort to help curb food insecurity in Lancaster County.

Last year’s drive was a HUGE success thanks to our HOPE friends and generous postal patrons all over the County. The collection resulted in 19,022 pounds of critically needed food for our clients. Our food needs greatly increase during the summer months. Without school supported programs, our client’s food budgets are stretched to the breaking point.

A common misconception is that most people who seek help with food resources are destitute, impoverished or homeless. While this is true, in our everyday work at HOPE, the people who seem to need food the most are working families and seniors. Financial resources only stretch so far and sometimes food is the last on the list.

This food drive could not come at a better time when non-perishable foods donated during the winter and the holiday season start to run low. Please keep this food drive on your minds as you shop at your local grocery stores. Your generosity will help us prepare for the busy summer months when hunger is at its highest. Let’s help our community live out HOPE-filled lives!

Won’t you join us and be a part of the nations largest, single-day food drive on Saturday, May 11th?
